REVEREND BRAY’S BARDIC BOULDERS – SERMONS IN STONE By Simon Dell

Talk  |  Seated

Simon Dell MBE is one of the most sought-after public speakers in the county with talks on a range of themes from his vast historical knowledge of Dartmoor, Lundy and local policing through to his adventures in Tibet and across the world’s most fascinating mountain ranges. He is also a keen walking guide giving fellow walkers a great understanding of the environment around them and bringing each and every walk alive.

TALK: Lying in the valley of the Cowsic River below Beardown Farm, within the private land of the farm and off the beaten track of any public footpath is a Dartmoor curiosity like no other.
Boulders of granite carved by the hand of man at the behest of the Rev’d Edward Bray are the subject of this intriguing tale which has fascinated the author for many decades. It was only recently in the hot summer drought of 2022 that I was given permission by the farmer to delve into this mystery and visit the land, to uncover the stones. Along with my grandson Joseph who was on school holiday and in need of something interesting to delve into, we spent several days searching out and uncovering these wonderful and mysterious carvings to tell the story.
