TALK: From the seventeenth century through to the twentieth century, the year '82 always seems to be a crisis year. 1882 is no exception, although, by contrast with 1782 this is a crisis arising from victory not defeat. Witnessing this is a Devon radically different from the Devon of 1782. Will the county continue to travel with the rest of the land into a remarkable new world, or does it risk being left behind?
