The Normals - '1986' Album Launch Party
The Normals hit the Wharf on Friday 8th September for their second time to launch their much anticipated new album - '1986'
For the many who’ve seen The Normals across Devon and Cornwall already, you’ll know the kind of night in store. For those who haven’t, this is a chance to find out why the band is in such demand for festivals, and the best venues in the South West. The floorboards will be rocking and the crowd jumping. It’ll be a night for dancing and singing, a night you won’t forget.

It takes a while to perfect a sound, especially when that sound is a unique construct of different genres. Several years into their tenure as a favourite South West festival band, The Normals continue to wow audiences across the region. A subtle, tight mix of ska, folk and funky rock with one of the best brass sections around, the band play a healthy mix of catchy original material and wacky 'ska'd up' covers.
Fronted by vocalist, guitarist and songwriter James Hills, a Dartmoor man born and bred, the band includes a selection of very talented musicians. On bass, Tom Chesbrough – a very accomplished guitarist in his own right – creates a tight focus of rhythm along with the band's original drummer Jon Payne, who adds that trusted normals punch and thump rhythm; all with a cheesy grin.

The brass section comprises Chris Spreadbury, a professional musician and music teacher on trombone and Lauren Carroll, a psychologist by day and professional musician by night on trumpet. Both Chris and Lauren have played with numerous top artists including The Simmertones and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.

Last year they headlined the BBC Introducing stage at the Looe Music Festival only to top that performance the following day when they sang their way through the streets on Looe sat on a motorised picnic bench!!!! and took a rapidly growing crowd through a string of their originals
